Includes notes written by James Savage, 12 May 1820 and James Bowdoin, 1832, and an explanation of the shorthand style by William P. Upham. 'Plain Dealing; or News from New England' was published in London, England in 1642.

James Bowdoin, nephew of the famous statesman of the same name, was educated at Bowdoin College. Born James Bowdoin Winthrop, he dropped Winthrop after he inherited part of his uncle's estate.
